Great Birthday Bash!

So my daughter’s first birthday was so much fun.  We started the day by taking her to the park to feed the ducks and swing for a little bit.  She absolutley loved it.  She thought that it was great when all of the ducks came around us as we fed them.  She kept pointing to the ducks and saying, “duck, duck, duck.”  It was precious.  She was not quite as fond of the swinging.  She did not like swinging by herself, but when either Kim or I held her in the big swing she was fine.  Kim took her down the biggest slide I had seen  in quite a while.  She liked that too.  The two parties when off without a hitch.  She tore into her cakes both times and she got some great presents.  It was so much fun to watch her react to everything that was going on during the day.  She seemed like she really enjoyed all that went on.  I know everyone that came to the parties had a good time.  I hate it that Kim’s mom could not be there.  I know that she wanted to so bad, but it is kinda hard to get to Dallas, GA from Freeport, IL for a birthday party.  I am making her a copy of the whole day though.  Everything we have filmed and all of the pictures.  I know that she will enjoy that.  I am really excited about going up to visit them in August.  Overall, the day was so much fun, and Anna Grace had a great first birthday.

Where Has The Past Year Gone

This past year has gone by so quickly.  God has blessed Kim and me in so many ways that I could never express them all.  Without a doubt, the biggest blessing is the addition of Anna Grace to our family.  She is such a joy to have as a daughter. (of course I saw that now but in about 12 years I may be saying something different)  I love Anna Grace so much and God is so incredibly good for allowing us to raise her as our child.  I have realized over the past year the meaning of communicating with God the Father in a new way.  Becoming a father myself has shown a new light on certain passages in the Bible.  Places where it talks of coming to God the Father like a child, and how that pleases Him so greatly.  God is our father and it pleases Him for us to come to Him as children.  I think of what a great sense of Joy that it gives me when Anna Grace gets so happy when I get home from work and she hurries over to me.  Just imagine how much more it pleases our Father in heaven when we come running to Him.  What a wonderful picture of the grace that God pours out on us.  We can come running with a reckless abandon into His arms, and He will catch us every single time.

Anna Grace’s birthday party tomorrow is going to be so much fun.  It has been a little bit hectic getting ready for it, but it will be worth it to see how happy she is and of course watching her tear into a cake without a care in the world.

A true dad/adult moment

Yeah so you know when you have those moments when you realize something that your parents said is actually true…well this past week has been a week full of moments like that.  This Saturday is my daughter’s first birthday. (I know, I cannot believe it either)  This past year has truly flown by.  Do you remember grown-ups talking about how you blink and they’re gone?  It is completely true.  I cannot help but get a little teary eyed just writing about it.  My little baby girl is already one year old.  It is so amazing to see her grow and develop.  The coolest is watching her when she does not know that you are looking, and you can see her concentrating on something so intently.  Then she realizes that you are watching and she turns and gives you that big smile.  Oh my gosh, it melts my heart.  And on top of it all she decided that this week would be the one that she would begin training for running the Boston Marathon.  Not really, but she is walking now like she has been doing it for years.  Of course she still crawls a lot too, but the walking thing was just all of a sudden.  I am technically SuperDad now.  How awesome is it that I just so happened to have the camcorder running when Anna Grace took her first real steps down the front hall at the house?  Yeah I know.  You can go ahead and say how cool and awesome I am.  Kim and I are so excited for our little girl to be walking, but it just seems to have come so soon.  It has, however, had unintended consequences.  You see now when we tell her to drop something or to not touch something, she just turns around and walks away.  The first time that happened was when i understood why my mom and dad wanted to “pinch my little head off” from time to time.  Obviously I would not really do that, but it is somewhat infuriating.  Everything is falling into place for the first birthday extravaganza this weekend though.  It is going to be loads of fun, and I cannot wait.  Things are still going great with the new car.  We love it and it drives so smooth. I guess that is enough rambling from me.  I will try not to be so long in between posts this next time.  Talk to y’all later.

I got a new car!! :)

So today Kim and I made the decision to finally go get a new car.  We have been talking about it for several months and we decided to go ahead and do it.  We have been doing our research on several different cars for the past few weeks, and we had decided to go after the 2008 Honda CR-V.  We had a horrible experience on Tuesday night at Team Honda on Thornton Road and were a little discouraged, but after talking with a couple other dealerships yesterday we decided to go up to Gwinnett Place Honda in Duluth.  The drive ended up being well worth it.  We drove home our new Green Tea Metallic CR-V this evening.  It was bittersweet though as we left Kim’s 1998 Honda Civic there at the dealership.  It had been a great car to us for so long, but it was just not practical to have a two-door anymore with Anna Grace.  It was a pain getting in and out of the back seat to put her in the carseat.  But needless to say we love the new car and it fits nicely in the garage.  It is really nice and there is a lot of room in side of it.  It is a cool car.

Hello World!

Yeah so this is my very first blog post.  I am new at the whole thing, but it should be fun.  I hope that this blog will be a source of encouragement to many people.  I am a Baptist youth/music minister in the Atlanta Metro Area, and my desire for this blog is to keep people informed of of what is going on in my life.  At times it will be very funny, at times it will be not so funny, and at times it will be inspiring (I hope).  So check back often.  I will try my best to blog daily, but I can’t make promises.  I hope that you enjoy ready about me and my life.

So for today. Last night my wife and I went to a Honda dealership to try to buy a car.  We are in the market for a new CR-V.  We really like them and we are at a point in our family where the two-door Civic is just not practical.  My main question is this: Why do car saleman insist on treating every person that comes into the dealership like they are completely retarded?  I mean I was not born yesterday, and I have done some research on what I should be paying for this car and what I should be getting for my trade-in.  I request that people in the car sales business start giving people that come in to buy a car a little more credit than what they currently get.  We do have the Internet.  Just a little courtesy would be nice.  Oh yeah and the guy who was the sales manager at this place was such a jerk.  He was really snotty about everything.  We were trying to be calm and deal with the man, and he wanted to get all pompous about everything.  He acted like how dare we come in and expect to get that price.  Anyway we will not be buying at that location.

So enjoy the blog, and talk to y’all soon.
