I am a friend of God

I don’t have much to say today.  This past weekend the wife and I made curtains for the living room.  I know guys, it sounds really girly, but they look really nice.  Also Friday night Kim, AG and I had dinner at Ted’s Montana Grill for only $3.18.  I used the coupon that I got from entering their contest to get a free burger.  Kim and I shared it, and we got an order of onion rings to go alongside.  It was cool to have a dinner out for only $3.18.  I love coupons for free stuff.  We also went and got new flip-flops at the mall.  Kim and I both got a pair of Rainbow Brand sandals.  They are awesomely comfortable, and I recommend that everyone check them out.

To continue my money saving shopping weekend, on Saturday we went to Kohl’s and I got five new polos.  They were only $8.99 each.  Well one was $11.99, but that is still a great price.  I was really in need of some new shirts.  Many of my polos are beginning to wear out and get holes in them.  So I really needed some new shirts.

Another bit of exciting information that I found out this week. (Well at least it is exciting for me.)  Kim and AG are coming with me to NO at the end of April, and I found out this week that we are going to down there the first two days of the New Orleans Jazz Festival.  I am really excited.  The city is going to be crazy, but it will be neat to be down there during that time.

Well I guess that ended up being more than I thought to have to talk about.  I hope that everyone has a great day.

I’ve fallen for you hard and I can’t stop. I won’t deny it.

Okay so I understand that I did not even make it one day before I failed at my pact to blog everyday, but give me a break I am a busy man.

We started the Crazy Love study last night with the youth.  I think that it is going to be a great community building study for the group.  I think that Francis Chan explains things in a way that makes it easy to understand, and the youth seem to like the way he teaches.  I also love that it is a study that does not have like 45 minute videos to watch.  None of the videos are longer than 10 minutes, and they really spur on the discussion with the kids.  I think that they and I will learn a lot during this study.  The first lesson was about our prayer lives.  We pray as if it is just some thing we do so that we can say we did it, but God deserves so much more than that.  I know that I am guilty of simply praying a generic prayer on many occasions, but Francis Chan challenges the group to try to picture Jesus and the throne room of God each time before you pray.  It will drastically change the way you pray.  You cannot picture that scene and then pray a generic uninspired prayer.  It is impossible.

This morning I spoke at chapel for CCA middle school.  It went great.  The kids really seemed to connect with what I was talking about.  The title of the talk was “The Truth about Temptation.”  I talked to them about how we are living in a spiritual battle field everyday, we have an enemy whose name is Satan, and Satan cloaks his attacks in deception.  I used the illustration of a tackle box and lures for how crafty Satan is with his attacks.  They really seemed to get the understanding of what God was using me to say.  I ending by telling them that the only way for us to combat the attacks of Satan is with truth.  John 14:6 is where Jesus says that He is the way, the truth, and the life.  Therefore we need to have Jesus in our hearts in order to fight back against Satan, because there is no way that we can do it on our own.

I hope that everyone has a great day.  Remember that Jesus is madly in love with you, and He wants to have a relationship with you.  Let that sink into your mind today as you go about your business.

I can’t wait to get on the road again…

I am back at the church.  It was a nice week last week being down in NO, and I get to go back in less than a month for another class.  It will be nice when I go back though, because Kim and AG are going with me.  It will be Kim’s first time in NO, and I am excited to show her a few things.  I love getting to be away from the office for a week, but there is always so much to do when I come back.  I have to sort through all of the mail I got, check emails, return emails, return phone calls, and many other things.  I am trying really hard to get back into the swing of things quickly.

I don’t really have much going on to talk about.  I have made a decision to try to blog every day from now on.  Of course things will come up I know, but for the most part I will try to at least check in every day.  I am excited about the new study that we are starting tomorrow night with the youth.  We are going to go through Francis Chan’s study that follows his book Crazy Love.  If you have not read that book, you need to very soon.  It is a great book, and it is super easy to read.  It causes you to think about the things that are really important in this life.  We so often get caught up in trying to live the Christian life as if we are lone ranger Christian, but that is most definitely not the way that God told us to do it in the Bible.  We are called to live in community with other believers.  This is what the youth and I will be tackling over the next few weeks.  I really think that they are going to enjoy it.

I guess that is really all for today.  I hope that everyone has a great afternoon.

I found God on the corner of First and Amistad…

It never ceases to amaze me that God can be found in the most unlikely of places.  If we will simply take the time to slow down and look, we will see that God is in everything.  He is the creator of all things.  He made everything from the largest galaxy to the E minor chord (Thank you Francis Chan).  As you may know, I am in New Orleans right now, and there are a great deal of sinful things that take place in this city (much like any other city in the world).  However, last night we were down in the French Quarter eating dinner.  After dinner we walked from where we were to Cafe Du Monde to have dessert.  As we were approaching Cafe Du Monde I began to hear some beautiful music playing.  I very quickly realized that it was a street performer playing a guitar on the side of the road.  He was extremely disheveled and dirty looking, but he was playing some of the most beautiful music.  It was as if he was transformed by his music, and it was an escape.  I do not know that anything about the man’s spiritual situation, therefore I cannot speak to that.  However, I could not help but think that the way I saw that man is the same way that God sees us.  As humans we are walking around this world looking extremely disheveled and dirty, but God sees past the crusty exterior and into our hearts.  He can transform us so that we can make beautiful music for Him.  I am almost taken aback by the thought that God could use me to make beautiful music for the Kingdom of God.  It is a very humbling thought.  I am so very small in the grand scheme of things, but God wants to use me to make a mark in this world.  It is an awesome thought to think that the God of this entire universe would want to allow us to be a part of what He is doing in the world.  He does not need us to do what He is doing, He is all powerful after all, but He wants to use us.

Think about how God is using you to make beautiful music.  Is He using your life to compose a masterpiece, or do you even hear the music of others?  You have to ask yourself the question and decide if you are a part of God’s grand orchestra, or are you just making noise of your own accord?  God wants to use you to make beautiful music.

Lost and insecure, you found me

Today I just wanted to ask a question to try to make you think.  I was wondering how you would answer the question:  When was the last time you shared your faith with someone?  I don’t mean saying, “God bless you.” or “Have a blessed day.”  I mean when was the last time that you took a few minutes to actually talk with someone about what you believe in your heart about Jesus and His interaction with the world?  It is a simple question.  Jesus commanded us to go, and I am just curious when the last time you decided to obey that command.

I have just been thinking lately that it is extremely unfortunate that the people who call themselves followers of Christ seem to be so ashamed of sharing the joy that they should have in their lives.  Think about how great the joy that the Christian has in his life truly is.  There is no way that you can have that joy in your heart and not want to share it with everyone.

I hope that this makes you think, and I truly would love for people to respond to this.  I hope that everyone has a great reast of the day.

But don’t forget who’s taking you home…

So tonight I am writing to you from the bustling metropolis of New Orleans, LA.  I love this city.  I hate it that I have to be so far away from Kim and AG, but NO is really cool.  I am looking forward to the class that I am taking this week though.  We get to become certified in disaster relief through the SBC and we get to do some mission work here in the city.  I hope that I get the chance to hare the Gospel with someone.  I am really looking forward to it.  I truly do hate it though that I have to be without Kimmie and AG for a whole week.  I will be glad to get back home and see them.

The trip down here was uneventful, and mostly just a rainy drive.  I am looking forward to great food and great time with the Lord this week.  I will check in each day this week, so check back often.  I hope that everyone sleeps well.

Your mercy’s raining down and I stand amazed

Sorry it has been several days since the last post.  I have had a rather eventful time since the last post.  I was accused of be guilty of a DUI and my driver’s license was suspended.  It was a long ordeal, but it was all one massive mistake.  I have never been drunk in any way, so it ended up being a clerical mistake at the Department of Driver’s Services.  Everything is good now, though.  I just wanted to say that I am still alive though.  Also the youth group went to the Dare2Share conference this past weekend.  It was a great time for the kids who went to get an opportunity to share their faith with people.  We had a great time sharing with others.

Also I am going to New Orleans next week.  I am excited about going down there because I like the city, but I hate leaving Kim and AG for a whole week.  Just pray for everyone’s safety.  I hope that everyone is having a great week, and I will make sure that I write again soon.

What God has willed, what God has planned…

I don’t have a lot of time to write today, but I just wanted to let everyone know that I have had a rediculous week.  I am super busy, and I have a great story to tell everyone about what my Monday consisted of.  However, schoolwork beckons for me to do, and it takes precidence over blogging.  Know that I will check in when it is possible, and be on the lookout for the story of my run in with the Fulton State Court system.
